2024 Summer Internships

Vineland Tree Care is excited to offer a summer internship opportunity to 2-4 qualified candidates for the summer of 2024. This internship is intended for students pursuing a degree in Arboriculture, Urban Forestry, Forestry, Horticulture, or other Natural Resources fields. Vineland will work with interns to ensure that the program qualifies for any degree requirements.

Vineland’s On The Job Training Program

Vineland Tree Care uses the Tree Care Industry Association’s Tree Care Academy Career Pathway as part of our in-house, on-the-job training. It includes:

  • Online coursework
  • On-the-job skills checks
  • ANSI and OSHA standards checks

We at Vineland take a scientific approach to tree care. While a related degree can help provide a baseline for people learning the trade, it’s not mandatory. More important is having the curiosity and desire to learn about trees and what affects them. Many of our arborists have learned everything they know through on the job training, self-study and continuing education seminars, including our two ISA Board Certified Master Arborists.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Work involves considerable exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, and/or loud noises.
  • Requires strenuous physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, and/or pulling required of objects over 50 pounds.
  • Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and include the use of protective equipment.

Open Positions

Arborist training.

Trainee Arborist at Vineland Tree Care

The main duty of an arborist trainee at Vineland Tree Care is to assist aerial workers and other ground crew members in all aspects of tree care and removal. Standard work hours are between 7:30am-4:30pm Monday thru Friday with occasional weekend work.

 

 

 

Trainee arborists will:

  • Keep the job site safe and organized, drag and chip brush, rake and clean up job site
  • Drive trucks with trailers, including daily safety inspection before and after operating
  • Operate equipment used in the trade
  • Complete and retain basic skills training and have a willingness to pursue additional training and certification
  • Perform traffic and pedestrian control and other relevant duties as necessary
  • Be accountable for all equipment on jobsite
  • Learn proper pruning techniques
  • Learn to be a spotter when vehicles are in reverse
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned and as abilities develop

Required Qualifications:

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Personal cell phone, work boots, proper work pants such as Carhart, Arborwear, or other tactical pants (blue jeans are prohibited)
  • Driving record that is approved by our third-party insurance provider
  • Good physical condition
  • Strong interpersonal communication and listening skills
  • Strong attention to details
  • Ability to use hand and power tools, or willingness to learn
  • Willingness to obtain DOT medical card
  • Willingness to obtain Class A CDL
  • Ability to work flexible hours when needed.

Arborist-Tree Climber at Vineland Tree Care

The main duty of an arborist – tree climber at Vineland Tree Care is to ensure trees are healthy and in safe condition, and to repair, cable, prune, and remove any dead, diseased or declining trees or other woody plants. Standard work hours are between 7:30am-4:30pm Monday thru Friday with occasional weekend work.

 

 

 

Arborist-tree climbers will:

  • Work with a team to perform removals, pruning, cabling, and plant health care
  • Identify potentially hazardous trees and other tree-related problems
  • Recognize disease and insect problems of trees and woody plants
  • Maintain records of work performed
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities preferred.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
  • ISA Arborist certification preferred, or a willingness to acquire
  • CDL driver license with air brake endorsement preferred
  • Experience in aerial bucket truck operation and tree climbing

Required Qualifications:

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to obtain DOT medical card
  • Ability to obtain Class A CDL if needed
  • Driving record that is approved by our third-party insurance provider 
  • Knowledge and experience in tree care crew work
  • Knowledge of proper tree care and safety practices
  • Ability to identify native and introduced trees and shrubs species
  • Working knowledge of each species’ characteristics
  • Comfort working aloft
  • Ability to use hand and power tools 
  • Strong interpersonal communication and listening skills
  • Strong attention to details
  • Ability to work flexible hours when needed.

Arborist intern.

2024 Summer Internship Position

The main duty of an arborist intern at Vineland Tree Care is to gain real-world practical experience in the green industry by assisting with and performing insect and disease treatments, soil amendments, and tree and shrub pruning.

Standard work hours are between 7:30AM-4:30PM Monday thru Friday with occasional weekend work.

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Work with a team to perform plant health care.
  • Recognize disease and insect problems of trees and woody plants.
  • Maintain records of work performed.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Possession of a valid driver’s license, with a driving record that is approved by our third-party insurance provider as you will be driving company vehicles.
  • Have or obtain a DOT medical card.
  • Have or obtain an MN Pesticide Applicator License (Vineland will provide training and any associated fees).
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Possess strong plant identification skills.
  • Safely maneuver hoses and equipment

This internship is a full-time position, with flexible start and end dates. The position will entail assisting with Vineland’s Plant Health Care and Consulting department. This experience will provide opportunities to utilize the Integrated Pest Management framework and perform a wide range of arboricultural services, including:

  • Spraying trees for various insects and diseases like apple scab, needle and shoot blights, and Japanese beetles.
  • Performing trunk injections for insects and diseases like emerald ash borer, Dutch elm disease, and oak wilt.
  • Applying fertilizers and using air tools to improve soil structure and amend soil with organic matter and nutrients.
  • Pruning small shrubs and ornamental trees for plant health, size management, and aesthetics.
  • Assisting our ISA Certified Arborists with tree inventories and site assessments.
