ENVIRONMENTALLY SOUND INSECT & DISEASE TREATMENTS

Integrated Pest Management or IPM, prevents the over use of pesticides and promotes the responsible application of insecticides and fungicides with in a time frame to achieve maximum benefits while protecting the environment. The purpose is to identify insect, disease or cultural problems and to evaluate the threat to plant health or aesthetic value for trees and shrubs in the Midwest usually from April through October.

Recommendations are made for concerns that require immediate attention; if the concern should be put on a 'watch' list or if treatment should be done the following year.

Many tree diseases do not pose an immediate threat to the health of the tree and therefore delaying treatment for a season does not pose undue risk to the overall health of the tree; however, this is not true of some vascular wilt diseases like Dutch elm disease and Oak wilt. Insect infestations often can be monitored to determine when an aesthetic or plant health threshold has been crossed, which prompts a recommendation for immediate treatment.

Some of the common problems we treat: • Aphids • Dutch Elm Disease • Pine and Spruce Sawfly • Oak Wilt • Two Lined Chestnut Borer • Anthracnose • Spider Mite • Apple Scab • Spruce Needle Scale • Needle Blight • Gall • Shoot Blight
